ScrumMaster 1

Sometimes reading the books, taking the classes, and attending seminars isn't enough. Written by a leading Agile Coach, this book provides step-by-step directions for starting your team out if you are a new ScrumMaster or if things aren't going with your team the way you think they should. This brief (32-page) book is a great quick-hit to-do list for transitioning from formal ScrumMaster training or just a good reminder that most problems Agile teams have are already solved.

Learning: Easy or Hard

"Various people at my company have been trying to get us using some sort of agile process for years now, but we've only had stumbling successes. A few years ago, when I tried to go it alone, I ended up with a couple of big "lessons learned" by the time it my project was finished. I'm loving the email series. It's helping me keep my eyes on the goal, and giving me something to think about with every issue."

Easy To Understand And Use

"You know that pilot with the soothing voice and assured confidence who you know will bring the plane down safely no matter what? That's Daniel in these videos. You'll enjoy his gentle teaching style, but you won't really appreciate how much you've learned until you start to apply it."

Michael Swaine, Dr. Dobb's Journal, PragPub

Unique Style

"In this package, Daniel has done a great job of explaining the most overlooked and misunderstood parts of scrum and kanban in an concise, relaxed, and entertaining manner. He covers a lot of ground in very little time and touches on some critical success criteria both in the preparation of the organization as well as in the daily execution at both the team and management level. Along the way, Daniel also lets his unique style and personality shine through, illustrating what it is to have a truly agile mindset. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in an Agile mindset."

Agile Team Room Kit

Walking into a new situation? You can either pick something up at the office store and hope you have what you need, or walk into the room knowing that whatever the Agile/Scrum needs as far as in-room tracking, you're prepared.

This is a two-container kit that includes adhesive tape, painter's tape, index cards, colored index cards, post-its, paperclips, sharpies, dot stickers, stars, super-strong magnets, and more. You could assemble this all by hand over a period of months. You could go out and spend the day organizing and labeling your kit. Or you could just be prepared. Note, some of the techniques and demonstrations in the advanced video series includes items from this kit.

Great Way To Get Started

I think this would be a great intro to the scrum process for teams that are thinking of trying Agile for their next project. A lot of the information in the video is pertinent to everyone on a scrum team, but some of it is more useful for a dedicated scrum master, which makes sense given the title.

The format of the video is the author white-boarding the discussion he is having with his audience. At times the whiteboard drawing would get a little distracting, and the speed of the author's content would slow down or speed up; this was something easy for me to overlook due to the usefulness of the actual content.

On a side note, if you ever get the chance to see Daniel Markham speak, you should definitely try to attend. I enjoyed his in-person presentation more than the video, but there are a bunch of goodies in the video that I found a lot of value in.

Physical Tools Too

"We were really happy with getting the professional kit. It provided us not only with the tips and tricks we needed to push through our initial problems, but also all of the physical things we needed to set up and manage our team room."

Ends Too Soon

My teams have been using these books since they came out. The only thing we don't like about them is that they end too soon, after only a dozen or so topics. Any chance you could roll up several of these into one larger how-to book? If so, we'd love to pick up a copy for everybody in our development group.

Best Investment

I was suspicious about getting training online. There are so many horror stories. So I started out with the free email course and then went through the books. Best Agile investment I've made.

Looked Sharp First Day

I was starting a new job and it was an Agile shop. I wasn't too sure about the training I had taken years ago. The ScrumMaster series really helped me get down to nuts and bolts the first day there and show folks I knew what I was talking about.

Helped Kill Cargo Cult

Our company had been doing "Cargo Cult" Agile for far too long. Tiny Giant Books helped us actually understand what the point to Agile was. Thank you.

Finally Came Together

Even though we had taken the training, and had coaching available, still my team just couldn't put it all together. We're very happy we found your website.
