ScrumMaster.

Judging by the opening line, "There is no recipe book for Agile" and the closing line, "People are more important than process," you'd think that this book wouldn't have much to offer. After all, it claims to be a "how-to" set of recipes for being a ScrumMaster. So how does a really short book have any value at all as a "recipe book" if Agile doesn't use recipes?

The answer lies in the way people learn new things. Looking at great artists, they first learn "by the numbers." After learning a skill robotically, they are then able to adapt and extend those instructions in their own way, eventually leaving behind all the recipes and working truly in their own style. So while Agile is definitely people over process, this book reminds us that process shouldn't be eliminated, just put in it's place.

If you're in a spot where your Agile practice is flailing: you've read the books, attended the seminars, and watched others perform but the magic just isn't happening for you and your team yet, you might benefit from "doing it by the numbers" for a short while. In this book the author sits down with the reader and outlines everything you need to do to get started with your Agile team, from setting up the training room to determining Sprint length.

It's a very short book -- there are no long explanations of Agile terms or long discussions about why something-or-another might work or not. There is no review of other systems, or histories as to why things ended up like they did. Instead, it's just you and the author, sitting down for a very brief and to-the-point list of "what do I do now?" If you want to make sure you have the best chance possible for Agile success, want to make sure you've absorbed all the best practices opinions you can, or want to compare what you're doing to what other teams have tried, this book is a keeper.
